The NFL’s biggest contracts are all tied to a team’s market share in the U.S. The average NFL team has earned an average of $2.2 million per year from its TV deal, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
It’s the most NFL contracts ever.
The most contracts earned per team are $3.2 to $5 million, according the site.
The top-earning teams are all in the NFC, with Seattle and Green Bay earning the most per team in each of the last three years.
The Seahawks earned the most in 2014, but the next year their contracts were reduced to $1.6 million per team.
New York is in second place at $1 million per contract.
The salary cap has exploded in recent years, so it’s hard to pinpoint which teams are making the most.
The biggest contract for a team with just five players is the Giants’ $2 million-per-year deal with the Cowboys.
The Chargers have been the biggest spenders in recent seasons, with $7.5 million guaranteed to their quarterback Philip Rivers.
The top five most lucrative NFL contracts in 2014 were: Cowboys $1,872,000 Giants $1 and more Chiefs $1 to $3 million Raiders $2 and more Seahawks $2 to over $5.5M Packers $3 to $6.5 Million Bears $5 to $10 million Colts $6 to $12 million Jaguars $10 to $14.5million Eagles $15 and moreRams owner Clark Hunt has called his team the “best in the NFL” in recent weeks.
He also has been critical of the league’s $6 billion salary cap, and said last week that the league is trying to fix the issue by cutting the cap to $71 million.
