LeBron James is the latest star in the NBA to be a Dunkin’ Donuts spokesperson.
The Miami Heat star joined a growing list of celebrities including LeBron James, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga.
The $5 million Dunkin Dippers’ promotional campaign is scheduled to launch on July 9th and is expected to draw more than 1 million customers and generate $5.6 billion in sales.
On Monday, ESPN reported that James was the biggest draw of the Dunkin franchise’s marketing efforts, with more than 6 million people attending Dunkin Dozen events during the month of May alone.
James and the NBA were quick to point out that they had not received any requests for an appearance from James or the NBA during the Dunkins’ promotional push.
“This is not the first time that we’ve gone after celebrities,” NBA spokesman Jason Lloyd said.
“The Dunkin Brothers had a big marketing push during the LeBron James ‘I Can’t Stop’ campaign.
There was also the NBA’s ‘We’re In Your Face’ campaign that was also a huge success.”
James has also made appearances at other Dunkin’s locations, including a special DunkinDozen event on July 4, and a celebration at Dunkin Brands Park in San Diego.
“As a family, we’ve always been fans of Dunkin and we’re happy to have LeBron’s support for DunkinDucks.
We’re looking forward to watching Dunkin on July 6 when we kick off our celebration in the parks,” said Dunkin spokesman Dan Storrs.
