A $100 offer from Hertz has been discounted by $20 off the phone plan for all Australian customers.
The offer was first spotted by the Sydney Morning Herald and the company said it was the best offer it had ever seen for an Australian smartphone.
“Hertz Mobile will be offering a $100 discount on all of our Australian Wireless and Digital Plan packages, and also the Essential Phone, Essential Plus and Essential 5 plan packages,” a Hertz spokesperson said.
“This is the best deal on a wireless plan, or digital plan, available anywhere in Australia.”
The offer is valid until 7 July and applies to all plans with a minimum purchase of $200 or more.
Hertz’s offering is the latest move by the company to raise the stakes in the wireless market, following the company’s acquisition of rival Telstra in February 2018.
It said the $100 price cut was not a discount to existing subscribers but instead was “a temporary offer”.
“It’s important to note that we will continue to offer an extended offer, with a $50 discount per plan, for customers who have already been signed up for a new plan,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
“While our pricing is still competitive with other carriers, we believe it’s the best price we’ve seen for a wireless package since the acquisition of Telstra.”
Hertz has also boosted its smartphone sales to the US, including the new iPhone X, which launched in September.
The company’s latest iPhone X deal is $499 for 16GB and $649 for 32GB.
