The Dallas Cowboys are looking to add some depth to their offensive line this offseason.
And it’s not the usual kind of depth.
The Cowboys have three linemen on their 53-man roster: defensive end Anthony Spencer, running back DeMarco Murray and linebacker Sean Lee.
But the Cowboys don’t have much experience at the position.
Last season, the Cowboys were 27th in the NFL in rushing yards per game.
They’re hoping to improve on that.
The Cowboys also have some young talent on their offensive side of the ball.
The team is currently on the hunt for a new quarterback.
And they also signed wide receiver Dez Bryant to a one-year contract extension this offseason that will keep him with the team through 2020.
But the biggest offseason project will likely come in free agency.
The Dallas team will be looking to move up in the 2017 NFL Draft and possibly add some pieces to their roster to help them contend for a playoff spot.
Here are the projected moves:DeMarco Murray will likely be the first of the Cowboys new starters on the offensive line.
Murray was an All-Pro last year and is now in his 10th season with the Cowboys.
He’s the highest-paid lineman on the team.
He’ll likely earn between $3.5 million and $5.5-million per year with the Dallas team.
He’ll get the bulk of his salary from the franchise tag.
That means he’ll make $11.5-$13.5 per week, which is $3-6.5 more than a starting guard on the Cowboys roster.
DeMarco has been a mainstay for the Cowboys offense since he entered the league.
He had two seasons of double-digit sack totals.
In 2016, he had 23.5 sacks and a career-high 25.5 tackles for loss.
He also had 10.5 quarterback hurries, which are the most on the NFL.
DeMarco is the kind of lineman that the Cowboys are desperately seeking.
He will make the team as a third-year player.
He also had five sacks in 2017, which was good for the second-most sacks in the league behind Terrell McClain (7).
McClain is a first-year starter for the Texans.
The Texans also have an interesting situation with the franchise tender option for the franchise left tackle.
If McClain leaves the team, the Texans would have to pay him $11 million annually.
DeMario will likely make $6 million a year if he stays with the Texans, so it would seem to make sense for the team to give him that franchise tag and take a flier on him.
The Cowboys will also need to add another offensive lineman to the roster.
The league’s second-ranked rushing attack last season was led by Dallas’s DeMarco.
DeAndre Johnson and Michael Oher had solid seasons last year as well, but they were both signed as free agents.
The teams biggest needs at the running back position are still on the defensive line.
They could look to move out of the first round to grab another player who can play the run.
The team has some talent at the tackle position.
The biggest move of the offseason would likely be to sign left tackle Tyron Smith to a deal that would pay him about $7 million per year for three seasons.
Smith was the second overall pick in the 2016 draft.
He was the best lineman on that team.
And he’ll be paid roughly $11-13 million per season.
Smith would likely command a contract similar to a starting right tackle, but he’ll likely make less than that because of his age.
That’s a big deal.
The current salary cap is $62 million, so Smith’s signing would cost about $10-12 million.
The contract also would give the Cowboys a little more flexibility to get younger.
DeMarcus Ware will likely start at left tackle for the first time in his career.
Ware was an elite left tackle in 2016, when he had a career year.
He is set to turn 30 in May and will likely have another year left in his contract.
Ware would be making about $12-15 million per game with the Los Angeles Chargers.
He has been very durable and reliable in his nine-year career.
Ware has had some problems as a pass protector over the past two seasons.
Last year, Ware was benched because of a hamstring injury.
The knee injury forced Ware to miss most of the season and he ended up missing the playoffs.
He only played in two games last season because of the injury.
He missed the first half of the 2016 season because he had hip surgery and will be back to play this season.
DeAndre Johnson has been one of the best pass rushers in the entire league for the past decade.
He led the league with 10 sacks last year.
The two-time Pro Bowler has recorded 10 sacks in three of the last four seasons.
He won a Super Bowl in 2015.
DeMarcus Lawrence is the
